Alignment
The simple act of sitting and truly exploring what our core values are works that are necessary in order to expand and grow into our higher self
I’ve recently begun training to become a trauma-informed Vinyasa yoga teacher. This has been something on my to-do list for ages, a way to further extend my own practice.
A topic that we covered this week was core values. We explored this using “I am” statements, focusing on states that are important to you and how you go about reaching that state. For example, “I am most at peace when I am in nature and connected with those around me because it makes me feel grounded and at peace.”
In this example, a core value is feeling grounded and at peace. It then turned to how we can manifest these core values in relationships, our careers, family, etc. As I was going through this simple practice in my journal, it made me realize how important it is to continuously check in on core values and deeply explore how our own current life is aligned with these values.
The simple act of sitting and truly exploring what our core values are works that are necessary in order to expand and grow into our higher self. If we don’t take the time to do this monthly, or bi-yearly we are at risk of building a life that is built on sand instead of stone. We risk building a life that serves everyone except ourselves.
Alongside this, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about this quote I heard that is along the lines of, “If you have no target, you’ll always miss”.
What I’m not saying is that you need to have an entire map of your life. If anything I think that does a disservice to you, which I can expand on in another post. What I am saying is that if you don’t take the time to sit with yourself, truly sit with yourself, and have an honest conversation on who you’re becoming, or if you don’t take time to at least have a vision for your life, you will always be misaligned with your potential.
Now a vision isn’t a meticulous plan. So even striving to be more open-minded, traveling more, focusing on one specific goal like learning to paint for 6 months and seeing where it goes - are all noble pursuits. You are taking steps to expand your mind and spirit. Even simply saying yes to more things, and assessing if they align with your core values is still a “target”.
I’ve been doing my best to adopt this in my own life. Taking even the smallest step in a direction that aligns with my core values. Nothing more, nothing less.
