The Pragmatic Philosopher
“Quite literally, the term "philosophy" means, "love of wisdom." In a broad sense, philosophy is an activity people undertake when they seek to understand fundamental truths about themselves, the world in which they live, and their relationships to the world and to each other. As an academic discipline philosophy is much the same. Those who study philosophy are perpetually engaged in asking, answering, and arguing for their answers to life’s most basic questions.”

Hi! I’m Rachel. I’m so glad you’re here and stumbled upon The Pragmatic Philosopher. I see philosophy as a way to think about, and approach life. Perhaps a way to live. Philosophy impacts our decisions, our debates, and our solutions, albeit we’re not always aware of it. It has shaped much of our legislation, core ideas, and fundamental beliefs, and yet both the casual and academic study of the subject is dying.
The Trolley Problem, the Chinese Room, and the Prisoner’s Dilemma are all popular philosophy puzzles you’ve probably heard of before, and perhaps keep you up at night. What is the meaning of life? How should you make a decision? What are ethics, and how do we decide on them? All non-trivial topics that philosophy attempts to discuss and answer, and that I hope to introduce and dissertate here.
Welcome to The Pragmatic Philosopher, stay awhile. And remember, “I neither know nor think that I know.”
